The Third Phase of the G20 Data Gaps Initiative (DGI-3) aims at creating a solid statistical base for carbon emission and content measurement, as a precondition for all meaningful policy action. Bo Li names and explains two principles that are key to success: (1) collaboration and (2) innovation. By bringing together academics, national statisticians, accountants, climate specialists and the private sector, we can make progress towards more accurate and interoperable carbon emissions data. This lies at the heart of effective sustainability policy.
