Carbon content measurement for products, organisations and aggregates: creating a sound basis for decision making International workshop organised by the IMF, BIS/IFC, Eurostat, Deutsche Bundesbank, Central Bank of Chile and the University of Oxford Blavatnik School of Government

The measurement of carbon content is at the heart of evidence-based policy on climate change. There is important activity on three levels: product, company and aggregate level. For organisations and products, carbon accounting standards are evolving as instruments for corporate decision making. ESG reporting requirements, such as the CSRD in the EU, will introduce mandatory carbon disclosure. Ultimately, national, European and international work on better and more informative aggregate emission statistics is going on, eg within the context of the G20 Data Gaps Initiative (DGI). Against this background, the IMF, the BIS/IFC, Eurostat, the Deutsche Bundesbank, the Central Bank of Chile and the University of Oxford Blavatnik School of Government are jointly organising an international workshop on measurement, reporting, and dissemination of carbon content information. The workshop will take place on 21-23 February 2024 on the premises of the Deutsche Bundesbank Regional Office in Hamburg. For details, see the information sheet below. Please note that, owing to capacity restraints, participation in person as contributing expert is by invitation only. Anyone who is interested can attend the event online. Hybrid panels will have the opportunity to interact and discuss results from 13:00 to 15:00.
