€10 collectors’ coin “Police“ with a cobalt blue polymer ring

2024 – Police €10 collectors’ coin with a cobalt blue polymer ring

The German government has decided to mint a €10 collector coin entitled “Police”, which is scheduled for issue on 25 April 2024. This coin is the third in a series called “In the service of society”. This series brings into focus the particular significance of groups of professions that are essential to the functioning of our society and the lives of each and every one of us. Each coin in the series will feature a polymer ring in a colour that is characteristic for the occupational group in question.

The coin consists of two different cupronickel alloys and a cobalt blue polymer ring. It weighs 9.8g, has a diameter of 28.75mm and will be made available both in mint condition and with a proof-like finish. The mint condition coins will be brought into circulation at their face value (€10) by the Deutsche Bundesbank. The collector quality coins with a proof-like finish will be priced higher than their face value and can be ordered from Münze Deutschland.

The coin was designed by Berlin-based artist Lorenz Crössmann (picture side) and Patrick Niesel of Röthenbach an der Pegnitz (reverse).

At the centre of the composition – highlighted by the polymer ring – stand two police officers, instantly recognisable in their uniforms. They come across as an approachable face for the general public and clearly convey the theme of the “In the service of society” series. The scene is rounded out by further images of police officers and rural and urban settings. The police star emblem features at the top of the coin near the edge. A non-specific cut-out in the shape of a shield represents all state and federal police forces. The design successfully illustrates the diversity of police activities and equipment and impresses with its high-quality craftsmanship and composition.

The reverse, which is being used for all coins in the series, features an eagle framed by the words “BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND”, the value and denomination, the year 2024, the twelve stars of Europe and the mint mark “A” (Berlin), “D” (Munich), “F” (Stuttgart), “G” (Karlsruhe) or “J” (Hamburg), depending on where the coin was minted.

The coin’s smooth edge bears the inscription: IM DIENST DER GESELLSCHAFT (IN THE SERVICE OF SOCIETY).
