Internship in the field of systemic interlinkages and sentiment analysis

Our Directorate General Financial Stability is currently looking for a motivated and suitably qualified student to take up a paid internship in the field of systemic interlinkages.

Valuable work: your role with us

Topic area 1:

  • Contribution to our text-mining project.
  • You will support us in consolidating and analysing various textual sources such as speeches and newspaper articles with regard to possible risks to financial stability. 
  • You will use various NLP methods, e.g. topic modeling approaches and sentiment analyses.

Topic area 2:

  • Analytical projects on financial interconnectedness and financial stability risks originating from non-financial corporations
  • You will support us in the collection and consolidation of micro datasets on credit and bank balance sheet information 
  • You contribute to the statistical and econometric analysis of the data 

Unique assets: your skills and qualifications

  • Graduate student (Master‘s or PhD) in economics, computer science, (business) mathematics, or similar.
  • Strong interest in quantitative and empirical methodology and questions of financial stability
  • Experience with databases and SQL desired
  • Topic area 1:
    • Experience in automated web scraping and knowledge of common NLP procedures would be useful
    • Experience with research projects using qualitative and quantitative data desired
  • Topic area 2:
    • Good knowledge of R including packages for data transformation and analysis (e.g. tidyverse) or Stata
    • Experience with the analysis of micro data
    • Good knowledge of econometric methods for panel and/or time series data.
